Oh, Poor Baby! I'm so sorryt o hear that the results were not exactly what you wanted. And having been there with an allergic child who eventually outgrew it, and my own (not outgrown) nut allergy, I know it can be hard. I'm thinking of you!
Oh the poor thing. I know how tough this is. We only have a kiwi allergy, but tons of animals. Watching their breathing suffer and them struggle is so tough. I know that those food allergies are so dangerous. Gotta an epi pen in my purse - bet ya do too :)
I have walked through this path with many a friend as we waited for results. I am thankful God has given you peace, but certainly pray that he grows out of them completely.
I understand, girl! We never did the scratch test but used the blodd test instead (ELISA) and plan to re-test in about 6 months. Just a had a peanut incident that worried me but I know that his dairy thing is worse and scarier! Question - why is the control scratch also so puffy? Good thing that God has/is taught you to deal with this problem and keep him safe! Andrea
Just happened to see your blog in the net. I'm actually a researcher. If I am not mistaken, the control on the right side of your baby's body, is a positive control whereby regardless if the child has allergy or not, it will swell up. On the other hand, the left control is a negative control, where no swelling is expected. Therefore, if the right control swelled up and not the left, it shows that we can rule out the possibility that there's an error in the scratch test. Which explained by the nurse that the test is 'good'
Further info on the controls. The left control has saline or glycerine as the liquid, therefore you would expect no reaction at all in the scratch, and of course none was found. The right control has histamine in the liquid which should trigger the skin to welt indicating a proper reaction and again it did. With the food allergy liquids they sadly triggered your son's body to create its own histamine and therefore allergic reaction in those scratches.

mom24 -
I don't know why the control is puffy... I wondered that myself and so did Jeff.
Anybody know why the control is puffy??
I really do need to look into that.
Mom24 - I spoke with the allergist's nurse and she said that they WANT the control to whelp up... it tells them that the test is "good".
I've got questions about that, but I'll go with it for now. :)
Hi Becky,

Hope this is helpful

Michelle~ THANK YOU so much for the further explanation! That makes perfect sense! Now, why couldn't the nurse have told me that? :)
