This week's Unplugged Project is "Plastic". I really didn't think we were going to get a chance to work it in this week, until I walked outside and saw this:
We are turning this 45 gallon plastic garbage bin into a composting bin. I got the bin idea from here and learned more about composting here.

Oh! Thank you for the Unplugged link--how fun!
We just planted tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, and cabbage plants this morning. Wonder if we can keep them alive??
We have one of these too. Works fantastic! Add some worms! The boys will love watching worm activity. Worms love newspaper and coffee grounds.
Great Project!
We have a compost bin that we bought about 10 yrs ago and its great but now I'm feeding our chickens most of what I normally added to it. I've been thinking of doing one of those worm compost bins for next summer. Good luck with yours.
This is so funny...my H and son are doing the exact same thing this weekend! I felt too guilty sending potato peelings and tops of strawberries and uneaten chicken nuggets down the disposal. But as city residents, we don't really have the space for a compost pile. I was planning on posting on composting on a small scale maybe next week. I'll be sure to link to you.
HOW COOL IS THAT?!? I will have to try that!!
As for unplugging...we caught lightning bugs after we pressure-washed the house...does that count?? :) hehe
We've been composting in a big ol' pile in the backyard, but should probably move onto something more efficient sometime. Thank you for the idea.
Love the pictures! Good luck on your project! Oh Boy, worms!!!
That is SUCH a good idea! I have a compost bin that cost a fortune and I was thinking about getting another. Now I know what to try for a fraction of the cost, and way more fun! Thanks for the inspiration!
Love the video! Sheer joy, I tell you...boys and power tools. I'll definitely have to look into the composting idea.
Also, I have something for you at my blog!
Glad I found this post. I have been thinking of making a compost bin. Now I've got a plan.
Wow, great project! We compost directly around our plants, and are getting ready to start compost heaps in our raised beds for next year.
