Another Allergy? Another Tooth?

Poor little Witt. You wouldn't know it by that picture, but his life has been pretty rough lately. In the past two months he's had three ear-infections... one of which Dr. P said was the worst he had seen that whole day! He's been on two rounds of antibiotics. The second round caused severe diarrhea, so you know that hiney was sore! He only finished two out of the three prescribed weeks of antibiotics because of it (per doctor's orders, of course).

Toward the end of the second week on antibiotics, he threw-up in the middle of the night and then had a rash on his back the next day. At first it looked as though he was sunburnt and then it turned into a red-dotted rash. Through the next three days the rash crept from his back to his belly and chest. He itched terribly at the back of his neck and on his legs as well. For awhile I thought maybe it was just a rash from a virus, as is common in little ones, but that didn't explain the itching. I realized then that I had started barley cereal around the same time, but I wasn't exactly sure. So, when he came off the antibiotics, I also took him off the barley. The rash and diarrhea subsided quickly.

This past week I tried the barley again in the morning and by bedtime his back looked sunburnt and the neck itching started again. I didn't notice any of the red-dotted rash, but that might have disappeared through the night. I didn't try the barley again. I'm going to give it another week and try one more time to be sure there isn't a coincidence of rashes (even though I'm fairly certain it's the barley).

Luckily, he has done fine with rice, oats, and wheat. If the rash returns, I'll be headed down the research-trail to find out how much stuff barley is in... On the bright side, I told Jeff that there's no way Witt'll be much of a beer drinker now! LOL! :)

Another tooth? Where does this come in? Well, I should ask where did these come in? Three teeth in the last 10 days. He's a miserable little teether, too. Doesn't sleep well at night, whines and screeches during the day. Oh, how Witt, Jeff, and I long for a night full of this:

So, Witt needs some prayers. His life has been torn up-side-down lately and he's in a little bit of physical pain with the teeth. Momma and Daddy need some prayers, too, because we're not sleeping much at night either and the deprivation doesn't make for happy campers. However, today I am going to "turn my frown up-side-down", be productive around the house, and spend some time with my sweet little boys.

I can't believe I just posted a picture of myself in pjs and no makeup... must be the sleep deprivation... :)

THANK YOU for posting that picture! That was my "Awwwww Moment" for the day!! :) What a precious sight.

I'll definitely be remembering the poor little fella in my prayers....along with his Mommy & Daddy. From one Mom of an allergic kid to another....I know how frustrating it is to think that your baby is allergic to yet another food. Hang in there.

You're a GREAT Mommy! :)

Poor, poor little Witt! And poor Mommy! Bless your heart, it sounds like you are having a tough time! I will definitely be praying for you. And by the way...you look GREAT! Lack of makeup and all! :)

I think the picture is beautiful. Life isn't full enough of tender moments like those.

For everybody's sake in your household, I hope those teeth break through quickly!

I love the sleep deprivation pj picture. We've been like that around here lately too, with teething and now colds. I thought "yay!" when I saw it because it's real, it's honest, and it's you! To be honest, I didn't even notice you were in your pjs at first b/c that's how I look half the day around here!
Thanks for posting even when things aren't all going easily; it shows me we're not the only ones having sleep deprivation challenges!

Fortunately with Hannah we never discovered another allergy (milk and peanuts is enough), but we have uncovered many food sensitivities over the years - things that would not qualify as allergy but that she definitely had a reaction to. She still has never eaten shrimp or anything of that type...I'm too scared to try it.

As for teeth, that's one of those things I blocked out of my memory - kind of like labor pain.

oh my gosh, what an adorable mommy/son picture. we too are not sleeping around here and graham (9 mos) is getting all 8 front teeth at the same time. 6 have popped through but two more are coming. we are also trying to figure out if he is getting enough breastmilk. he seems hungry a lot. i thought i'd come to you and ask...you said you breastfed when you posted your early allergy notes. a recent post said you buy formula. i just wondered if you are just supplementing? or have you weaned? i'm really upset right now as i only pumped 3 oz for graham's bedtime feeding. no wonder he wakes up all night, not to mention the teeth. i don't know what to do. i never had to supplement miles and nursed til 13 months. sorry this is so long. just reaching out for some encouragement. and since we have SO MUCH IN COMMON......!

i hope this isn't too personal to ask on your blog...

also, i wish my pj's were that cute!
