Back to the Laundry Room

Before I even start, I have to give credit where credit is due. I am TOTALLY stealing Take90West's laundry room idea. Her laundry room is how we "met". I covet her laundry room. It's beautiful. And although I love her red bins and golden yellow walls, we had already purchased green paint for the room - turns out I really like the green; it brightens up the place!

So anyway, we've made some progress in the laundry room - basically just putting the shelves up. That alone has given a mores spacious and organized look.

Now before anyone asks me why we need 2 gigantic bottles of bleach, let me just tell you. Jeff uses it to clean out the A/C piping. He asked me to buy two bottles, so I did. The cheapest bleach was the biggest bottle and I was trying to be frugal. We've had these two bottles of bleach for about 3 months now. Apparently he didn't need such big bottles. Oh well. Maybe in about a year or two they'll be gone. ANYWAY... back to my copy cat laundry room.

I have narrowed it down to three choices in baskets.

#1 The Canvas Crate: handles, no place for a label, and moderately sturdy#2 The Canvas Bin: no handles, place for label, moderately sturdy, comes in a wide variety of colors
#3 The Seagrass bin: handles, no label, exceptionally sturdy, natural

What are your thoughts on the baskets? If you think I should choose canvas basket, what color should I go with (the room is actually almost lime)?

Thanks for all your comments!! When receiving talents, I obviously didn't stand in the "decorating line", because I'm quite deficient in that area! LOL!

GIRL - I COVET *YOUR* laundry room! The color is great and I think the seagrass bin would be my choice :-D Make sure you post another TAT when you get the room done!

I think I covet your washer and dryer. I love that your shelves are deep enough to hold your laundry basket.

I'd go with the seagrass baskets too. You could always add a label by making a tag and looping it on the handle with ribbon (maybe in a coordinating shade of green)

Wow, her laundry room is really cute. I don't blame you for copying it. I love seagrass, and think your laundry room would look really beachy w/ the white beadboard, seagrass, and bright green. However, if that isn't the look you are going for, I would do either red bins, like your inspiration room (I think the green and red would look great together...and you seem to have a thing for red!), or a red and white stripe. Looking at the other room, it is definitely the red bins that give the room it's "wow factor". So, I think to recreate that, you need the red bins. I guess it just depends on the look you are going for...hmmm...

(New reader; giveaway time does that to a person...)

I would go with the seagrass bins; I think they match the best, and they also have the added benefit of probably not showing wear as quickly as canvas would.

If you wanted to to labels on the front like the other laundry room, you could always write on fabric (or paper) with a Sharpie and punch holes in the corner, and using raffia or ribbon, thread it through the holes in the weaving of the basket so that it lays flat on the front.

It looks great!!

It Looks Fantastic!!!
I agree with Corrie, you are so lucky that a laundry basket fits on the self.
I have to say, I LOVE the 1st basket, but I think it might be a little bit modern for your room. The beadboard does give it a beachy or cottage feel so I think the seagrass would look great but really the 2nd option would look good too. Just depends if you are leaning towards beachy or not beachy! I like that #2 has a spot for a label.
If you went with the 2nd basket, you could do so many colors...maybe blue? Navy or sky-ish blue would look good with the paint. Or a stripe with some brown in it? I'm a brown person and I think it would look good with the green. Or what about Laurel's suggestion of the red? The right red might look good with the lime green, I guess you'd have to actually see them together to find out.

I really am a huge help, aren't I?
In case you couldn't tell I do lack some critical decision making abilities.
Can't wait to see the pictures!

Could I write a longer post of my own in your comment section!? ;)

Oh, for such an organized and lovely laundry room! I'm green with envy. Get it -- green? Never mind.

I'd go with the seagrass -- sturdiness is key, and it's good looking.

Seagrass gets my vote too. Laundry room is looking lovely!

Looks great. I love that print against the wall. It would call for the sea grass, but I like the storage of the canvas. It would use the space more efficiently. It looks great!
Bleach is a great tool for cleaning. Buy a very small bleach and refill it. Keep it under the kitchen sink. Add a few drops to dish water when cleaning plastic, and bleach in a water bottle diluted is great surface disinfectant. It is also good to pour some in the toilet to sanitize (just let it soak a little while) close the lid if you have pets.

I agree with the others that say that like the seagrass baskets. Your laundry room is coming along very well! The green looks nice. I know you will love it when it is finished. Do show photos when you finish it.

I think the seagrass bin will be best because it will still work for you if you ever change your wall colors (which I like too btw)

And btw, both your laundry room and the one you linked to... I totally drooled.

I love that green! I'm a green lover though so you had me before I even saw the photo. What are you going to put in the bins? I would have a hard time putting cleaning products in canvas or grass. I think I would have to go with white plastic bins. I know, I'm boring but they would last forever and cleaning up spills in them would be easy! If the bins are for clothes will anything snag on the seagrass? Will the grass break apart over time?

I can't wait to see the room finished! It makes me want to get some color into my drab house. Thanks for the sneak peak!!!

Gorgeous laundry room! I am partial to the sea grass myself. If I went with the canvas...I would probably get the one with the label since I am very into labels. They always make me feel more organized somehow (even if I am not). I think a bold color of canvas would look good in there: red or blue perhaps. Can't wait to see the final result!
