Picking up Pennies

I started tackling our mudroom today. It is the room you walk into from the garage.

To explain the room as it was, there is a sink in front of you (somewhere) when you enter the house from the garage. To the right of the hidden sink were four crates on the floor full of last year's shoes and a couple of this year's. The wall facing the crates has seven hooks. On these hooks were 3 diaper bags, 2 purses, 2 winter hats, 1 cap, 1 bag for church, 2 backpacks, and 3 of last year's coats for the boys. That does not add up to seven! Then of course were the mittens, gloves, scarves, and umbrella on the floor under the hooks. A couple of bags from Lowes with unopened stuff were in the mix as well. This room also contains our "naughty chair" and "naughty corner". (Will was having too much fun sitting so now he gets his nose in the corner.)

This is NOT a large room. I should have taken a before picture, but here's the work in progress picture. All the bags you see hanging are unopened items I have found around the house that I need to return! This is better than picking up pennies off the road - maybe I'll have enough money from the returns to buy groceries for the week!

I have also recently tackled Nathan's closet. The kid is in a 3T already and he's not even 2! He's a stout little man! All the 2T clothes are put up for Witt. (It turned out I was still putting 18 month shorts on the kid... no wonder they were so short). The job isn't complete though. I still have a box of winter 3Ts sitting in the living room. I need to find somewhere to store it until the weather changes.

I've had a few people ask about my desk. Yes, I finished it!!! It's packed with stuff, but I use it all and have no drawers to stow it away. However, I did fix my computer wires to where I can shut off everything but the hard drive when I'm not using the computer. That will save us a bit on electricity! Probably nothing to write about, but, hey a little change here, a little change there... it adds up! Wouldn't you pick up a penny if you saw one?! :)

Wow, what a great room! I bet you love having a sink right off the garage to clean up messy boys when they come in! As for all that stuff, you are going to be rich! :)
I love looking at pictures of Nathan...I swear, he and landing could be twins. Landing is also in a 3T, and also has almost no hair! The parallels continue...
Good work on all your decluttering, it looks great!

Kudos on the rewards of the decluttering, too!
